Classic Bo Bounds today. A few minutes into the second hour, I was subjected to this (Note: this hour of the show is not available in the audio vault. Presumably because it was awful radio. So what appears below is culled from memory):
Has Saban ever beaten Stoops?
Um…let me see…I think that was when they played USC, no…and then LSU was in the Sugar Bowl, but they beat someone else…But I could be wrong…Coop help me out…
It went on for much longer than I have represented here..
Bo hard at work - negotiating with himself |
This has always been a trademark of the Out of Bounds show: listening to Bo work out an idea, live on the air, for the first time. It is a torturous process for the listener – hearing a professional radio host negotiate with himself in hushed tones and eventually reaching a half-ass conclusion to a question to a self-posed question that nobody really cares about in the first place.
While grasping for an answer to his own pointless question a new question popped up that needed to be answered immediately. Not after the Rick’s Pro Truck ad, NOW. That question: How many wins will the University of Texas have this season. Then he paused for a good 5-7 seconds while he looked up the 2011 Texas Longhorns schedule. He “saved” the moment when autopilot kicked in and he gave out the caller line.
And then, before I could get out of the car, I heard the beginning of an interview with the head pro at Castlewoods Country Club (a new OOB sponsor judging from the commercial that aired just before the interview). It was truly AWFUL. Can we get more herbicide talk from the mumbling, stuttering hick golfer please? Apparently, grass seed is a new addition the Y’all Lifestyle. This is what you get when you let your sponsors dictate the show.
Also, worth noting that the show was dedicated to Carmen Electra because today is her birthday (no better way to celebrate college football than by dedicating a radio show to a washed up disease like Carmen Electra).
