| Is this what the Lifestyle looks like? |
For the uninitiated, Bo Bounds is the host of an AM drive-time sports talk radio show, The Out of Bounds Show (see what he did there with his last name) in my hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. He recently claimed that he’s been on the air for 7 years. Well, I’ve been listening for the last 3 years and I’ve come the conclusion that Bo Bounds is the Worst.
As a radio host, he comes across as pompous and arrogant. He uses his platform to proffer uninformed opinions, share his narrow and out-of-touch world view, and brag about what he refers to as the Y'all Lifestyle.
Despite my complete disdain towards Bounds and his show, I listen almost every morning. And as far as local sports radio shows go it could be worse. Out of Bounds has an above-average guest list. Russell Baxter and Brad Edwards both kill it once a week. But, when Bounds is left to his own devices he falls back on tired Lifestyle shtick. The Lifestyle? What an arrogant asshole. Just look at that picture.
I'm not even sure how he got a radio show in the first place. I don’t know anyone that thinks this guy is a good radio host. And surprisingly, a Google search about his awfulness turns up nothing, save for a few comments on a Clarion-Ledger blog. Well, I’ve decided to take some initiative in this area. This blog will help keep the absurdity surrounding the Bo Bounds brand in check.
I really let him have it on the Out of Bounds Facebook page about how he treats Southern Miss football, and he actually changed his tune and started talking positively about them.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I totally agree, Southern Miss is always just a footnote to Ole Miss and Miss. State on his all-SEC-all-the-time show, neither of which ended last season ranked in the top 25!
DeleteHave to give it to you, I can't stand to listen to his freelance commentary, he is probably one of the most uninformed talkshow host that I have ever heard; however, he does nail his interviews. I just love to hear him rail against highschool football coaches and then tell everybody how he's not an expert in that field. What ever happened to the Bobby Hall show on Thursday mornings? Pissed him off to I guess?
ReplyDeleteJust wish he didn't hate Texas so much. Can't turn by his channel without hearing an earful on why Texas (a team that has been to the NC game twice since 2005 and won 10 or more games about 10 times since 2000) is underachieving etc. I think someone from Texas was mean to him in his past or did something to give him an inferiority complex. He needs to let it go.

ReplyDeleteHe actually had Gary Danielson on the show one morning about a year ago. But the interview was awful on Bo's side.
On 2 different occasions, Gary's responses started off with-"Im gonna disagree with you on that Bo...."
It was hilarious!
