Today, in a rambling show that moved carelessly between the NFL draft, college recruiting and high school prospects, Bo dropped this little gem on us at the top of the third hour.
First, some background. Be was complaining about the fact that a several football players listed on the Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen don’t ever make it on campus for one reason or another, usually academic issues. Then he got on his soapbox about how easy it is to get eligible. I’ll paraphrase:
They already let you take the ACT five times and keep your best score. I mean how hard is that? I bet we’ve got some kids at Jackson Prep, Madison Station, Madison Avenue, JA that could do that. I mean, fifth graders at these schools that could get an 18.
To sum up Bo’s point here: white kids from privileged backgrounds take standardized bests better than the state’s best football players. This is so breathtakingly stupid.
Now, I’ve got better things to do with my time (like check to see if there are any new zooborns) than get into a debate about standardized tests and if cultural biases exist (they do). But, how ignorant and insensitive do you have to be to bring up 4 of the most affluent, lily-white schools in the state to support this stance?
This is exactly the type of thing I would expect from the same out-of-touch asshole who runs around town talking about how great his life is. Casual racism is a nice addition to the Y’all Lifestyle. I wonder where I can get that t-shirt.
